The Differences between Part Number 1245 and Part Number 1296
A number of Zierick customers use very fine wire strands (0.010") with our Insulation Displacement Connector (IDC), Part Number 1245, with much success. To accommodate the needs of customers using larger wire strands, Zierick has created a new, more forgiving terminal, Part Number 1296, which will satisfy most applications.

PN 1296 is very similar to PN 1245. The difference between them is the size of the gap between the base and the end of the contact beams.

PN 1245 has a smaller gap (0.000" - 0.005"), and is designed for applications where one individual wire strand is smaller than 0.013" and where the electronic manufacturing can be controlled to ensure that there is no solder wicking during reflow. It is necessary to assure that solder does not fill the tight gap under the contact beams to ensure functionality of the terminal.

PN 1296 has a larger gap (0.005" - 0.013") which reduces the possibility of solder wicking onto the contact beams. This terminal is ideal for most applications where the electronic assembly process isn’t required to maintain tight manufacturing tolerances, and each individual wire strand is larger than 0.013".
